GST
GST calculator Australia
Add 10% to an ex-GST amount, or take the GST out of a price that already includes it. The rate is Australia’s 10%. This is the arithmetic, not advice about whether you should be registered.
On a Docket quote, unit prices stay ex GST. The GST line is 10% of that subtotal, rounded to the cent. The GST guide covers what a tax invoice has to show.
- Ex GST
- $100.00
- GST (10%)
- $10.00
- Total
- $110.00
$100.00 plus 10% is $10.00 GST, so the total is $110.00.
Worked examples
- $100.00 ex GST becomes $10.00 GST and $110.00 including GST.
- $110.00 including GST is $10.00 GST and $100.00 ex GST.
- A job at $950 ex GST plus 10% is over $1,000 including GST, so a tax invoice needs the buyer’s name.
Short answers
How do I add 10% GST in Australia?
Multiply the ex-GST amount by 0.1. $100 ex GST is $10 GST and $110 including GST. Docket rounds the GST to the cent.
How do I remove GST from a price?
GST is one eleventh of the GST-inclusive price. $110 including GST is $10 GST and $100 ex GST. Divide by 11, not by 10.
Is the GST rate 10%?
Yes. The goods and services tax rate in Australia is 10%. This page does not decide whether you have to charge it. You add GST only if you are registered.
Are Docket prices ex GST?
Yes. Unit prices on a Docket quote are ex GST. One switch adds 10% and, on an invoice, the tax-invoice wording. Turn it off if you are not registered.
