Free quote template for landscaping and gardening

Updated October 2026. General information, not tax or legal advice.

Landscape quotes should be in square metres and cubic metres, not “the backyard”. A gardening visit is hours, green waste, and what you will not spray. Turf, soil and tip fees are where a verbal price falls over.

The sample is 35 square metres of turf, one garden bed, and a hedge trim. It is an example, not a rate card. Measure the real yard before you send yours.

Sample

Example only. 35 m² of turf, plus one hedge. Unit prices exclude GST. The preview adds GST at 10%. Not a rate card, and not a real business.

Notes

Measures are from the site visit on 22 Oct 2026. Price assumes ute access to the side gate and no excavation deeper than 150mm. Rock, concrete, or a new tap is extra. Client waters the turf the same afternoon. We will lodge a Before You Dig enquiry if any trench is deeper than the turf bed. Green waste stays on site unless a tip line is added. The hedge trim is the existing hedge only, not a new planting.

Terms

This quote is valid for the period shown. Prices are in Australian dollars and, where GST is applied, unit prices exclude GST. Work starts after written acceptance. Variations to the scope are quoted separately.

Measures that survive a dispute

  • Turf and mulch in square metres. Soil, gravel and rubbish in cubic metres.
  • What “level” means. A visual rake is not a surveyed grade.
  • Who waters, for how long. Turf dies over a weekend if nobody says.
  • Access for the truck, and a tip fee if green waste leaves the site.
  • Services in the ground. Lodge a Before You Dig enquiry (BYDA) before you trench. The quote can say the price excludes repairs to unmarked services.

Plants and maintenance

If plants are included, name the size of the pot. A 140mm plant is not a 45-litre tree. Maintenance, if you offer it, is a separate line with a visit frequency, not a vague “we’ll look after it”. A gardening visit can be mowing, edges, hedges and weeding. Write the hours and whether green waste leaves the site.

Licence and insurance

Mowing and garden maintenance are not the same as a retaining wall, a deck, or electrical work for garden lights. Structural landscaping and electrical work can be licensed, and the class depends on the state or territory. Check the building authority where the job is, and use a licensed electrician for the lights, before you include that work.

Many commercial clients ask for public liability insurance. Whether you need it, and for how much, is a question for your insurer. This page is not that advice.

Write yours in Docket

Copy the lines into your own quote, with your prices and your exclusions. Docket writes the quote and the PDF. Choose Convert to invoice and the same lines become the invoice. The document stays in this browser.

Try Docket free. The free plan is 5 jobs a month, counted in this browser when you download the PDF or turn the quote into an invoice. The quote and its invoice count as one. Pro is A$12 a month or A$99 a year, including GST.

If you are registered for GST, leave unit prices ex GST. With GST on, the PDF adds 10%, and the invoice is titled Tax Invoice. If you are not registered, turn GST off. The GST guide on this site has the longer version, and it is general information, not tax advice.

Short answers

Can I use the sample prices on a real yard?

No. The figures show metres, cubic metres and one hedge. They are not a rate card. Measure the yard and use your own prices.

Should a gardening quote include green waste?

Say so either way. Clippings stacked on site are a different price to a tip fee. A maintenance visit should name the hours and how often you come back.

Do I need a licence to quote landscaping?

Mowing usually does not. A retaining wall, structural landscaping, or garden lighting can. The licence class depends on the state and it changes. Check the building authority where the job is. This page is not that list.
