Free quote template for electricians

Updated October 2026. General information, not tax or legal advice.

An electrical quote should say what is being added or replaced, on which circuit, and whether the price includes testing. “Upgrade the board” is how arguments start.

The sample below is a small Brisbane job: a safety switch and four double power points. The names and the ABN are examples. Copy the shape, then put your own licence, your rates and your exclusions on it.

Example only. Unit prices exclude GST. The total on the preview includes GST at 10%. Not a rate card, and not a real business.

Notes

Price assumes the existing board has room and the cables run in accessible roof space. Chasing brick, a new board, or asbestos is a variation. Power will be off for about two hours.

Terms

This quote is valid for the period shown. Prices are in Australian dollars and, where GST is applied, unit prices exclude GST. Work starts after written acceptance. Variations to the scope are quoted separately.

What to name on each line

Write the device and the count. Four double GPOs is not the same job as four singles, and a new circuit is not the same as a spur off an existing one.

  • Board work: safety switch, RCD, or a new board, and whether the meter box needs the distributor.
  • Points: type, location, and whether the cable run is included.
  • Labour as hours, or as a fixed visit if that is how you price it. Say which.
  • Testing and the certificate your state expects. The form has different names. The quote should say you will leave the paperwork.
  • Exclusions: painting, patching plaster, asbestos, three-phase upgrades, and after-hours rates.

GST and the licence

If you are registered for GST, unit prices can stay ex GST and the tax invoice shows 10% on top. If you are not registered, do not add GST and do not title the invoice Tax Invoice.

Electrical work is licensed. The quote does not replace the certificate. It should still say that a licensed electrician will do the work and test it. Who may do the work, and the licence class, depends on the state or territory, and those rules change. Check the regulator where the job is.

Builders often ask for public liability, and for workers compensation if you employ anyone. What you need depends on the job, the state, and your insurer. This page is not that advice.

Write yours in Docket

Copy the lines into your own quote, with your prices and your exclusions. Docket writes the quote and the PDF. Choose Convert to invoice and the same lines become the invoice. The document stays in this browser.

Try Docket free. The free plan is 5 jobs a month, counted in this browser when you download the PDF or turn the quote into an invoice. The quote and its invoice count as one. Pro is A$12 a month or A$99 a year, including GST.

If you are registered for GST, leave unit prices ex GST. With GST on, the PDF adds 10%, and the invoice is titled Tax Invoice. If you are not registered, turn GST off. The GST guide on this site has the longer version, and it is general information, not tax advice.

Short answers

Can I use the sample prices on a real job?

No. The figures show the shape of the lines. They are not a rate card. Use your own supply price and your own labour.

Does the quote replace the electrical certificate?

No. The quote says what you will do and what it costs. The certificate, or the form your state expects, is still the paperwork you leave after testing. Name that on the quote so the client knows it is included.

Do I add GST to an electrical quote?

Add 10% only if you are registered for GST. If you are not registered, leave GST off and do not title the invoice Tax Invoice. The sample shows the registered case.

Use your own name on the next one.
