Free quote template for tilers

Updated October 2026. General information, not tax or legal advice.

A tiling quote should say the square metres, what you are tiling onto, and whether the waterproofing is in the price. “Tile the bathroom” is how the extras start once the old floor comes up.

The sample is one bathroom: the floor and the shower walls, straight lay. The names and the ABN are examples. Measure the room, then put your own tile and your own rate on the same lines.

Sample

Example only. One bathroom, not a whole house. Unit prices exclude GST. The preview adds GST at 10%. Not a rate card, and not a real business.

Notes

Measured on site on 22 Oct 2026. Floor 12 sq m and shower walls 8 sq m, straight lay. Tile order includes 10% extra for cuts. A diagonal, a herringbone, or a niche is more waste and a different labour price. Old tiles are already off. The floor is assumed flat and sound. Extra levelling, a new screed, plumbing, and the shower screen are not included. The membrane is included. If the room is not the one we measured, we stop and re-measure.

Terms

This quote is valid for the period shown. Prices are in Australian dollars and, where GST is applied, unit prices exclude GST. Work starts after written acceptance. Variations to the scope are quoted separately.

Measure in square metres

Price the surfaces you will tile, in square metres (m²). Docket prints the quantity as a number, so write “sq m” in the description or a floor can be read as a lump sum.

  • Each surface on its own line. A floor, a shower wall, and a splashback are different areas.
  • The tile. A large-format tile is not a mosaic, and client-supplied tiles are install only. Say which.
  • Skirting tiles and a niche, in linear metres or their own area. Do not bury them in “the bathroom”.
  • A measure after the room is stripped beats a measure from a photo. If you have not been, say the areas are provisional.

Waste allowance

Order more tile than the net area you will lay. Cuts, a broken tile, and staying in one dye batch all use the spare. Write the percentage on the quote. The sample allows 10% on a straight lay. A diagonal, a herringbone, or a small room full of cuts needs more. Say whether spare full boxes stay with the client.

Prep and waterproofing

The price is for the surface you measured, in the condition you saw. A flat fibre-cement wall is not a floor that still has tiles on it, and it is not a screed that needs a bag of leveller.

  • Removal, grinding, patching, and floor levelling as their own lines, or written as excluded. The sample assumes the old tiles are gone and the floor is flat enough to patch.
  • The membrane, in square metres, before the tiles. Name the wet area. A shower is not the whole bathroom unless you are waterproofing both.
  • Domestic wet areas are usually waterproofed to AS 3740. That standard is the method reference. It is not a licence, and this page does not set the method out.
  • Plumbing, a puddle flange, electrical, and the shower screen. If another trade does them, say the price excludes them.
  • Silicone at the junctions, trims, and movement joints. Give them a line so they are not an argument at the end.

Licence

Wall and floor tiling can be licensed building work once the job passes a threshold, and waterproofing a wet area can be a different licence class. Both depend on the state or territory, and the thresholds change. Check the building authority where the job is. Do not write that a tiling licence covers the membrane unless the licence you hold does.

Some clients ask for a public liability certificate. Whether you need insurance, and for how much, is a question for your insurer. This page does not set that.

Write yours in Docket

Copy the lines into your own quote, with your prices and your exclusions. Docket writes the quote and the PDF. Choose Convert to invoice and the same lines become the invoice. The document stays in this browser.

Try Docket free. The free plan is 5 jobs a month, counted in this browser when you download the PDF or turn the quote into an invoice. The quote and its invoice count as one. Pro is A$12 a month or A$99 a year, including GST.

If you are registered for GST, leave unit prices ex GST. With GST on, the PDF adds 10%, and the invoice is titled Tax Invoice. If you are not registered, turn GST off. The GST guide on this site has the longer version, and it is general information, not tax advice.

Short answers

Can I use the sample prices on a real bathroom?

No. The figures show square metres, a membrane, and a waste note. They are not a rate card. Measure the room and use your own prices.

How should waste show on a tiling quote?

Write the net square metres you will lay, and the extra percentage you will order. The sample uses 10% for a straight lay. A pattern or a lot of cuts is more. Say who keeps the spare boxes.

Does waterproofing need its own line?

If you are doing it, yes. Name the area in square metres. If you are not, write that the membrane is excluded. In some states waterproofing is a different licence from tiling. Check the building authority where the job is.

Use your own name on the next one.
